LIMA, Peru, September 10, 2009 – USA defeated
hosts Peru 3-1 (25-10, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20)
improving its record to 2-0 in the II Women’s
Final Four Cup. The Americans share the top
place with defending champions Brazil.
Angie Pressey was the American top scorer with
23 points, Cynthia Barboza contributed 15 and
Nicole Fawcett added 11 tallies. Peruvian Leyla
Chihuán charted 14 points and Diana Soto had 14.
“We knew it was going to be a fought match
because Peru is a good team,” said Hugh
McCutcheon, the USA coach. “We played a good
game and had good rhythm for moments. Now we
will continue working looking for the shape we
want to.”
On the other hand, the Korean Young Kim, who
coaches Peru, said to be more enthused than
after the first match. “We improved our game and
it makes me happy. Now we have to work for
tomorrow’s match.”
